A trans Mexican man, who transitioned as a man, says he’s finally getting his first job after his transgender status became a “disease” in his country.
In an interview with Univision, Ricardo Sanchez, 29, described his first experience with the job market as “a nightmare.”
The job offer was posted on a social media site that specializes in job seekers, and Sanchez has since been able to secure a job at the Car Service of Mexico.
“It’s like the biggest joke in the world, because I can’t find anything,” Sanchez said.
“I had to get a job, but it’s a big joke because there are no jobs here.”
Sanchez has lived as a woman since he was a teenager.
But after being diagnosed with gender dysphoria in 2012, he was forced to start taking hormones and surgeries to become female.
“The surgery was the only thing that I could afford,” Sanchez explained.
“That was why I was going to take it, because it would be cheaper.”
Sanchez says he was offered a job in Mexico, but the company rejected him.
“There was no reason to go back to Mexico,” Sanchez told Univision.
“And they said ‘No, we don’t have anyone.’
I didn’t understand that.”
A few months later, Sanchez started to notice the same issues he’d seen on social media.
“When I’m at work I can tell I’m not the person I’m supposed to be,” he said.
He went to a psychiatrist for help, but he couldn’t get the answers he needed.
Sanchez’s experience was one of many similar stories that are being reported by transgender people across the United States.
“Every time I hear from a transgender person, they are still coming up against the same problems,” said Mara Keisling, president of the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTEO), a nonprofit that advocates for transgender people.
“We need to be the change, the leaders.”
The Transgender Law Center has also tracked more than 3,500 transgender people who have been fired from jobs since 2012.
And Keisler noted that the lack of job opportunities for transgender workers can leave them feeling depressed and suicidal.
“If we have to fight against the laws that are put in place by the government to protect us, it is only going to make us feel worse about ourselves,” she said.
For transgender people in particular, the discrimination they face is a huge challenge.
“In our country, there are more people of color who are being murdered at the hands of the police than trans people are,” Keislinger said.
Keislings advocacy for transgender rights in the United Kingdom, where transgender people are not allowed to use the public bathrooms they feel comfortable using, has become an important national issue.
In the United Nations, transgender rights are a key focus.
The U.N. Human Rights Council recently adopted a resolution that urges member states to “ensure that discrimination against transgender people is not only unlawful but also socially harmful.”
It also calls on member states and international bodies to provide financial, social and other support to trans people.
The United States, which recently became the first country to pass a law requiring transgender people to use public bathrooms that correspond to the sex on their birth certificates, has not been able provide any such assistance.
Transgender Americans may not be the only ones affected by these discrimination laws.
The National Center For Transgender Equality estimates that in the U.S., there are over 800 transgender people of military age, including military personnel, reservists and veterans.
A recent study by the non-profit Center for American Progress estimated that more than 50 transgender people have been murdered since the 1980s.
The research was conducted by the LGBT Military Action Project, a group that aims to bring more trans people into military service.
The group said that the group’s study shows that “the murder of trans women, and the violence they are subjected to, is not isolated to trans women of color.”
The study also found that more trans women have been killed in the last 15 years than in all of the previous decades combined.
The numbers are even higher among black trans women.
According to the study, between 1996 and 2014, there were 1,839 murders of trans people of African descent.
A majority of the victims were black.
The study found that the death rate among transgender people has tripled since 2000.
“These numbers are alarming,” said Neena Patel, the Executive Director of the Center for America’s Future, a think tank that advocates on behalf of LGBT Americans.
“Our numbers show that trans people have seen a significant increase in the violence that they face.”
Patel believes the lack in trans employment opportunities can be traced to policies such as the ones that are in place in Texas.
“A lot of people think that if Texas passes these anti-trans bathroom laws, that’s going to magically fix the issue
