Car sharing services like Car2Go and Lyft are offering car owners the option to rent out their cars for an amount of time to help them save money on car ownership.
According to a survey conducted by the app store platform Car2go, which claims over 50 million registered users worldwide, the number of car sharing users has grown from 5% to 10% in the last three years.
While car sharing service providers are now offering car sharing as a service, car sharing is not the only option for car owners.
Car owners can also rent out cars for other purposes, like for road trips.
The survey showed that over a quarter of car owners who used a car sharing platform for the past three years said they had used it for car sharing at least once.
Of those who had used a vehicle sharing platform more than once, 57% had used car sharing for road trip purposes.
A similar percentage of car share users also said that they had rented out their vehicles to friends.
Car sharing platform Car 2Go says that over 20% of its users are people with no previous car sharing experience.
The survey also revealed that car share is a popular way for car-share users to save money.
Around half of the users said that it was the best way to pay for their car, while another two thirds said it was a good way to make money.
The car sharing user survey was conducted in the United States, China, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, India, India and Australia.
